This year's pageant is based on the pageant from 2016. Using songs and styles that may be called "Hamilton-esque," the pageant contrasts two Gospel stories concerning the Birth of Jesus, from Matthew and Luke (the other two Gospels, but Mark and John, didn't even mention this part of Jesus' life). Matthew and Luke also narrate the pageant, appearing throughout to demonstrate how their stories agree, contrast, and just plain differ. Other group characters include the "14 Generations," who lead up to the generation of Jesus, and a flexible "Chorus" who appears in the opening song, as Worshippers at the Temple, and as Teachers of the Low. And, of course, the Lambs, Shepherds and Heavenly Host of Angels who welcome the Birth of the Baby Jesus. There are many parts of all sizes available, including Zechariah and Elizabeth (and their neighbors), the Angel Gabriel and the Angel of the Lord, Caesar Augustus, his assistant and his Chief Priests, and the Three Magi. Mary and Joseph also appear throughout.
